1. Plain-English summary

AskBetter AI is a Chrome extension that rewrites your prompt drafts on AI chat sites (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, DeepSeek). To do this we need to know who you are (so we can bill you and rate-limit) and we need to read the text you ask us to rewrite (so we can rewrite it). That is the whole story.

2. Data we collect

2.1 Account data

When you sign in with Google we receive your Google account email address and display name. We store these in Firebase to identify your account across sessions and to send billing-related email if needed.

2.2 Prompt content (transient)

When you click the ✨ button in the extension, the contents of the input box — plus a short window of the visible conversation around it (used as context for the rewrite) — is sent to our backend over HTTPS. We forward it to our LLM provider (DeepSeek), receive the rewritten prompt back, stream it to your browser, and then discard it. It is not written to any database.

For diagnostics we keep a server log that includes the first 200 characters of the input and the rewritten output, plus timing metadata. These logs are retained for 30 days for debugging and abuse prevention, then deleted.

2.3 Subscription and billing data

If you subscribe, Stripe processes your payment. We never see your card number. What we store on our side is limited to: your Stripe customer ID, current subscription status (active / trialing / canceled / past_due), and billing period boundaries — just enough to decide whether to let you use the paid features.

2.4 Usage counters

We maintain a per-user counter of how many times you have clicked the boost button that day (so the free tier's 15-per-day limit can be enforced) and a rolling "last seen" timestamp.

2.5 Local-only data

Your preferred language for output and your authentication token are stored locally in Chrome's storage and indexedDB. These never leave your device until you make a request to our backend.

3. How we use your data

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, third-party marketing, or training machine learning models.

4. Third-party services

Three services help us run AskBetter AI. Each handles a single, specific job:

Hosting / network: our backend runs on infrastructure tunneled through Cloudflare. Cloudflare may temporarily process IP-level connection metadata to deliver traffic.

5. Storage and retention

6. What we do not do

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, port, or delete the personal data we hold about you, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days.

Account deletion is honoured fully: your account record, subscription references, and activity counters are removed; logs containing your identifiers are purged in the next rotation cycle (at most 30 days).

8. Security

All traffic between the extension, our backend, and our providers is encrypted with TLS. Authentication uses short-lived Firebase ID tokens. Your card details never touch our servers — Stripe holds them in PCI-DSS-compliant storage. We follow least-privilege access to our database and review credentials regularly.

No system is ever 100% secure. If you suspect a vulnerability or breach, please email us as soon as possible.

9. Children

AskBetter AI is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.

10. International transfers

Our backend is hosted on infrastructure that may process data in Canada and the United States. Our LLM provider (DeepSeek) processes prompt text on its own infrastructure. By using AskBetter AI you consent to these transfers.

11. Changes to this policy

If we make a material change to this policy we will update the "Effective" date at the top and, for changes that meaningfully expand the data we collect or how we use it, we will notify active users by email before the change takes effect.
